This session is designed to equip you with the skills to craft compelling funding proposals. Whether you\u2019re securing research grants or funding a community project, this session will provide the tools you need to stand out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

This workshop will be led by <\/span>Dr. Lisa Avery<\/b>, President of Linn-Benton Community College (Oregon, USA).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Dr Avery<\/b> has extensive experience in student success, international partnerships, and securing funding for academic and community initiatives. She previously served as Campus President at Portland Community College and as Vice Provost for Strategic Partnerships and Global Education at the Community Colleges of Spokane, where she worked to advance institutional goals through business, industry and foundation partnerships. Dr Avery also has a background in international education, having developed and taught the study abroad course <\/span>International Social Development<\/i> in Jamaica. Her leadership experience in higher education makes her the perfect guide to help you secure funding for your academic and professional goals.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Dr. Lisa Avery — Bio:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/b><\/p>\n

Since 2020, Dr. Lisa Avery has served as President of Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon. LBCC\u2019s seventh president, Avery has presided during the most unprecedented period in LBCC’s history — responding to the COVID-19 pandemic with a focus on student and community success that has pivoted to meet today’s unique challenges, while charting a bold vision for the college’s future.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Avery previously served as the president of Portland Community College\u2019s Sylvania Campus since 2015. At PCC, Dr. Avery was an advocate for career and medical programs, equitable student success, and increased student access. Her international work on behalf of PCC focused on partnerships in Namibia and the United Arab Emirates.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/b><\/p>\n

Prior to her appointment at PCC, Dr. Avery served as the District Vice Provost for Strategic Partnerships and Global Education from 2012-15 at the Community Colleges of Spokane (WA). In this role, Dr. Avery was responsible for advancing the college district\u2019s strategic plan with key business, industry and foundation partners, as well as enhancing and promoting international exchange, study abroad and honors programs. Under her leadership, international enrollment climbed steadily and new partnerships were established in several countries. Avery led global exchanges funded through the U.S. State Department, USAID, IREX, and other partners, as well as expanding the District\u2019s connections in China, Brazil, Taiwan, Korea and Japan. During Avery\u2019s tenure in Spokane, the District received a Heiskell Award honorable mention for its international success.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Avery also previously served as a Professor and Interim Associate Dean of the School of Social Work and Human Services at Eastern Washington University. <\/span>Her role included the development, implementation and instruction of a study abroad course, International Social Development, taught in St. Ann, Jamaica.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/b><\/p>\n

A first-generation college graduate and native of LaPorte, Indiana, Dr. Avery obtained her doctorate and master\u2019s degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to this, she earned her bachelor\u2019s degree in research psychology from Ball State University. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/b><\/p>\n

A proponent of strategic partnerships, Dr. Avery serves on numerous local\/regional committees, and was previously the co-chair of the American Association of Community Colleges\u2019 Commission on Global Education. In 2018, Dr. Avery was elected to the national governing board of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), and served as a board member from 2018-2021. <\/span><\/p>\n
