Job Purpose
The Accounting Technician assists with the maintenance of financial records to ensure that good accounting procedures are followed by the Council in accordance with the relevant Acts and guidelines.

Authority
- Pay the legitimate claims for goods supplied or services rendered
- Schedule payments in keeping with the availability of funds
- Seek explanation or clarification regarding bills to be paid when in doubt
- Verify the correctness of bills submitted for payment
Minimum Required Education and Experience
- Associate Degree in Accounting/Business Administration,
- Competence in the use of accounting
software
OR - Completion of the Government Accounting Level 2 Course (MIND)
- Competence in the use of accounting software
- One (1) year’s related experience in an accounting position
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Sound knowledge of government accounting principles and procedures
- Working knowledge of general accepted accounting principles
- Working knowledge of accounting and financial reporting requirements
- Working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Working knowledge of spreadsheets, database software and hands-on experience with MS Excel and accounting software (e.g., Peachtree, QuickBooks)
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of the relevant computer software and high competence in the use of Microsoft Suite, especially Excel and Word
- Ability to operate efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to produce reports
Special conditions associated with the job
- Normal office environment but may be required to work beyond normal working hours occasionally to meet critical deadlines.
- The incumbent is faced with constant interruptions, must manage multiple demands simultaneously and complete tasks within tight deadlines, and must deal with a wide variety of people on various issues regularly. Commitment to the integrity and confidentiality
REMUNERATION
Salary scale: $2 190 302.00 – $2 945 712.00
per annum
